Lo confesamos: cuando la semana pasada los escoceses Biffy Clyro, banda de nuestros amores donde las haya, lanzaron como avance de su próximo disco el tema Instant History, nos dejaron un tanto confusos. Envuelta en sintetizadores, sin rastro de guitarras y con un sonido y producción más próximos a bandas como Imagine Dragons, la canción no tenía gran cosa que ver con ninguno de los diversos palos sónicos que nos habían llevado a amar a Simon Neil y los hermanos Johnston durante sus siete discos anteriores.
¿Estábamos entonces ante un giro estilístico de 180 grados por parte de los de Glasgow? A tenor de la entrevista que concedieron a Radio X al poco de que pudiéramos escuchar Instant History por primera vez, la banda aseguraba que IH no representaba el sonido general del disco, y que de hecho se trataba de la canción más poppy del album.
Tras compartir un snippet de solo cuarenta segundos de un nuevo tema, End of, el miércoles, muchos vimos indicios de que ese punto pareció confirmarse: esos pocos segundos bastaban para intuir un corte de calado rockero, con una línea de bajo nacida del post-punk más sucio e indicios de distorsión guitarrera.
Pues bien, ya podemos escuchar End Of y solo podemos decir que es uno de los temas más redondos que hemos oído de Biffy en tiempo. Lleno de oleadas de guitarras, giros inesperados, estribillos con pegada, con la voz de Simon rasgada/gritada que tanto nos gusta a ratos y una letra fascinante y algo oscurita.

Al mismo tiempo se abrió el preorder online del disco en varios formatos y bundles, que saldrá a la venta el 15 de mayo y que se llamará A Celebration of Endings. Pero que no cunda el pánico, que a pesar del nombre del disco, Biffy Clyro tiene para rato. La banda ha declarado en varias ocasiones que su disco anterior, Ellipsis, era el primero de algo así como una trilogía temática, algo que han confirmado también en entrevistas recientes. Así que todavía quedaría como mínimo otro disco de estudio traes este A Celebration of Endings.
